Essex are a decent 421/6 at close on day one against Kent
Elgar with 120 and Critchley not out on 103

Get the feeling the BBC are rooting for Surrey this season
--------------------------------------------------------------------

What a catch!

Jordan Clark induces the edge off Sean Dickson's bat and the ball flies towards Jamie Overton's bucket hands at second slip.

But it bounces out of those and drops towards the floor at first, where Dom Sibley gets down low to grab it. Brilliant work from the slipper.

Shades of Chris Tavare and Geoff Miller at the MCG in the Boxing Day Test of 1982.

Batting - tick!

Bowling - tick!

Fielding - tick!

Surrey tick all the boxes

Two new boys saving Essex from poor start.

Seems very early to be playing cricket but guess the t20 World Cup is in June pushing the Tests back to a mid July start. And of course the Hundred takes the peak county period.
Has ANY other country expressed the slightest interest in taking up the Hundred?

Any idea when Sam Cook will be turning out for SURREY?

Didn't know that the Kookaburra ball, is being used in the first four rounds of County Championship games. Makes Cook's efforts, all the more impressive.

maybe 5mph slower than international level - at least away from home.... but he'd do well as Jimmy replacement in England.

That said, he's been playing short-form leagues around the world, so his skills have improved in alien conditions.

Chatting to him last summer, he's a fantastic young man, he thinks unlikely to get a chance.

Stew,

Feck me - just seen those career figures for Cook so far. That is superb. Averaging less than 20 per wicket after 74 first-class games.

I knew this guy was good - but that's got to turn the head of any selector at some point, surely? I have no idea if he'd thrive at test level (some say he isn't quick enough, but they said that about Broad when he broke through: and he's the second highest seamer for wickets). But surely that's worth a few games to see how he goes?

Superb win, hopefully we don't have any points deducted though.

Worth a central contract?
Could be if the selectors had the balls to move Anderson on or call the bluff of the piss-taker Archer

great win - and match figures of 10/73 for Sam COOK

275 wickets at 19.48 in his career. Phenomenal

Stuart Broad obviously retired at the right time
Notts capitulating & the last 9 years without an Ashes series win
Guess we will have to endure his pointy head on Sky this summer instead

Kent almost past the deficit 3 down so unlikely

Essex win IMMINENT

Taken his Mum's name so he isnt suspected of having dirt in his pocket presumably

Essex recover to lead by 289 with a day to play
Only that game & Worcs v Warks have any realistic chance of a result though not sure how much play either will get
Surrey game at Lancashire lost a load of play as the Northerners decided that although it was dry it was too windy to take the covers off

335no by Sam Northeast for Glamorgan at Lords
Good way to get your average off to a good start
Unlike Mike Atherton Junior .... 0/147 off 28 overs
